There is something nostalgic about the idea of rummaging through a cupboard for a snack at the end of a long day. It brings back memories of television shows like The Brady Bunch, My Three Sons, and Leave It To Beaver. Now that I’ve aged myself and my fondness for old-fashioned television shows, I can tell you that it’s also not practical.
Often times you end up with half-eaten packages of cookies, stale crackers, and bags of potato chips that are spilling out onto the shelf. Or, the snacks are just out of reach of the smallest people in your household who need to drag a chair across your nice floor which leaves scratches and then… Ok, moving on.
One of the easiest ways to combat this problem is to store snacks on the counter. Jars work great for this and come in an assortment of sizes and are available at just about any store. The easiest snacks to store in jars are things like cookies, crackers, wrapped candies, and such. If you are going to store smaller crackers such as Goldfish or the like, you might want to consider some type of scoop.
As you can see by my photo, you don’t have to limit yourself to snacks for people. Now that my children are away at college, I store snacks for my dog in the jars that live on our island counter. This makes it easier to reward her for a multitude of things and everyone, including guests, knows where the treats are.
